About the Program

The Online M.Tech. in Microelectronics & VLSI by IIT Kanpur is designed for engineering graduates and professionals aspiring to excel in the fast-growing semiconductor and VLSI industry. The program blends strong theoretical foundations with advanced VLSI design methodologies, covering areas from device physics, analog and digital circuits to specialized topics like RF, mixed-signal, and reliability of devices. With a balance of core concepts and practical applications, it equips learners with expertise to drive innovation, pursue cutting-edge research, and advance their careers in microelectronics and VLSI.

Eligibility Criteria

Institute Level Eligibility Criteria

  • Minimum CPI 5.5 or 55% marks in the qualifying degree.

Applicants may qualify via:

  • A valid score above department-stated cut-off in approved national-level exams as applicable to the program discipline (GATE/JAM/CEED/CAT/GRE/GMAT)
  • Or via, IIT Kanpur’s online proctored entrance test.

Department Level Eligibility Criteria

  • B.Tech./B.E./M.Sc./B.S. (4 years) EE, ECE, CS, Electronics, Physics, and allied disciplines.
  • Selection through interview and/ or a written test.

Exceptions for IITK Online Entrance Test

  • Professionals with over 5 years of relevant experience as defined by the concerned department.
  • Applicants with valid national-level test scores above the department specified cutoff.
  • Candidates nominated or sponsored by government/defense organizations.

Course Fees/Credits ₹4000 per credit *
Minimum Credits 144 Credits

Application Fee (non-refundable) ₹15,000
Continuation Fee ₹5,000 per inactive trimester.

  • 25% fee concession for candidates sponsored/nominated by the Government/PSUs/Defence Organization.
  • 15% fee concession in a year for corporate bulk sponsored/nominated candidates (5 or more candidates in a year).
  • 40% concession on Program and Course/Tuition Fees for IITK Alumni.
  • 100% concession on Program Fee and Trimester Fee for the first four trimesters for eMasters graduates joining M.Tech. in the same department.

* Course fees per credit may vary for interdisciplinary courses.
