About the Program

The M.Sc. [Online] in Economics and Data Analytics is designed to equip students and professionals with advanced knowledge at the intersection of economics and data science. The curriculum blends core economic theory with modern analytical tools, enabling participants to address real-world challenges in finance, policy, and business. The program emphasizes hands-on training in software such as R, Python, MS Excel, and STATA, ensuring participants develop bothconceptual understanding and technical expertise.

Institute Level Eligibility Criteria

  • Minimum CPI 5.5 or 55% marks in the qualifying degree.

Applicants may qualify via:

  • A valid score above department-stated cut-off in approved national-level exams as applicable to the program discipline (GATE/JAM)
  • OR
  • IIT Kanpur’s online proctored entrance test. [syllabus]

Department Level Eligibility Criteria

  • Bachelor’s degree in any discipline.
  • Mathematics at the 10+2 level or at least one mathematics course completed during undergraduate studies. Knowledge in Calculus is required.

Exceptions for IITK Online Entrance Test

The following candidates are exempted from the IITK Online Entrance Test*:

  • Professionals with over 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Applicants with valid national-level test scores above the department specified cutoff.
  • Candidates nominated or sponsored by government/defense/other recognized organizations.

*The department may conduct an interview/written examination only for those candidates who are exempted from taking the IITK online entrance test for admission in the PG online programs.
